Winner's Parents - Ms. Chen, Fuhsing Martial Arts Support Group Chairman

1.Why did you think of letting your child dedicate time to martial arts?
I want them to find a talent outside of academics. Through martial arts they can accumulate experience in competition and performing on stage to build confidence.
2.What do you think are the benefits to practicing martial arts?
Because my child has to repeat each move over and over again, I think "perseverance" is something they definitely learned. Practicing martial arts trains their coordination and muscle memory. Formal competitions where they have to complete a routine in a limited amount of time also build their mental strength.
3.Any suggestions for the Taiwanese martial arts environment?
I hope that children can learn legitimate martial arts from the very beginning, so I would like for there to be more professional coaches to teach children the right martial arts concepts and rectify any wrong ideas such as the misconception that stretching stunts growth. In fact, if done safely and in moderation, stretching most certainly does not stunt growth. Since the Asian Games have added martial arts as an official competitive event, I hope that educational authorities and the martial arts association will work together to deepen Taiwan’s martial arts roots so that our martial arts can shine on the international stage.
4.Are sports injuries a major concern in martial arts?
Martial arts is just like any other sport — as long as you warm up before beginning and do some stretching to cool down, sports injuries can be prevented for the most part.
