Chinese Martial Arts - Wushu

Basic Information

Wushu(Chinese Martial Arts) is a priceless form of art that has flourished in China for five thousand years, a cultural treasure that must be preserved. In the language of the Han people, “wu” means “the ending of conflicts and war” — just as its name suggests, the purpose of wushu is the self-defense, threat containment and the prevention of further conflict. Wushu evolved from a simple hand-to-hand combat training regime to a form of art with specialized auditions; as time went on, a myriad of different schools emerged, each one unique because of their respective geographical region and historical context.
The beautiful tradition of wushu boasts five thousand years of history before us. It is our hope that wushu will continue to thrive, as an irreplaceable piece of Chinese culture, as a living example of unity in diversity, and as a timeless form of art.
