The trip to Mellow Fields Hotel’s Market
In a chilly Sunday morning, we arrived at Mellow Fields Hotel at Tianmu to visit Mellow Fields hotel’s market. Mellow Fields Hotel holds an organic market every month, inviting different organic farms or supermarkets to set up a vendor’s booth. And MOA Taiwan is also one of the groups in the market. This time, our group visits the booth of MOA and also learned more about natural farming from different environmental friendly farming groups.
Stepping into the market, the golden tea booth was the first booth that caught our attention. We were so excited to have a nice cup of tea, but the tea owner said: “Do not rush, trust me, the tea from Sun Moon Lake is worth waiting.” When we finally got the tea from the lady, the elegant smell and taste distinguished from all the tea I’ve ever tasted. It was smooth and semi-sweet in a way that it dries our mouth, but in a clean and refreshing way, which only organic tea can achieve since there isn’t any chemical or pesticide involved during the planting. The pure taste of tea amazed us and we truly believed a good cup of tea doesn’t need to be fancy or full of sweetness.
Another booth that impressed us was an organic honey shop. The owner brought out a real honeycomb and explained the life of bees to everyone. This remarkable experience taught us a lesson that what we take for granted matters a lot in other people’s lives. Just like honey is actually the hard work of a farmer bee owner.
Olive oil in Taiwan is often imported from Europe or other countries. To change that, Oilicious, a local Taiwanese company, started an olive farm in Taiwan. The representative of Oilicious told us in a joyful and exciting voice: “One day, we are going to let the world see olive oil made in Taiwan!” The passion from his expression surly touched us—that moment, we know that Oilicious was not only a creative producer, but also a dreamer pushing our country forward. Moreover, they also told us Oilicious plans to combine Taiwanese fruits into olive oil, creating varieties of products, and thus enhance the organic industry. After listen to their presentation, we are looking forward to see the changes Oilicious will bring upon in our society.
