MOA Q and A
One of the question on our questionnaire asked the survey takers to write down one question that they have about MOA. After we collected the survey, we saw many great questions. In order to let more people in our school know about MOA, our job is to answer these questions. We hope that our responses to the questions will help them get better understanding on MOA and natural farming.
Q1. Why would farmers want to change their planting style from traditional methods to natural farming which is time consuming?
Some farmers implement natural farming due to health concern. Since chemical fertilizers are bad for body, they decided to not use them. Other farmers implement natural farming because of their love for the land. Natural farming is more environmentally friendly. In addition, over-application of chemicals harms the land in many ways.
Q2. What are some problem that a farmer might face when he/she farms naturally?
Farmers who implement natural farming faces a lot of challenges. These farmers put a lot of effort into their work since they have no chemicals fertilizer and pesticide to help them. For instance, they have to pull up weeds every day since they refuse to use weed killer.
Q3. Organic vegetable and fruits are relatively more expensive. If today all the farmers only provided organic food wouldn’t it be unaffordable for some family?
In fact, it’s not necessary to force all the farmer to conduct natural farming. Rather, MOA believes that it is more important if one is concerned about his or her diet. A farmer can plant a high-quality food if there are good water and good soil. Besides eating organic vegetable and fruit, eating food that is in seasons helps our environment too.
