Learning Flower Arrangement
On the first week of December ,2016, we went on a journey of seeking beauty. We were nervous and excited at the same time. Fortunately, Mr. Yoshinobu, who was our host, eased our anxious minds with his heartwarming smile. It was the first time for us to learn the art of Flower Arrangement and the Tea Ceremony.
The fresh flowers in the water tanks and the various types of vases on the table were long ready for our arrival. Mr. Yoshinobu began the class by introducing the concept of MOA art therapies. He told us that flowers were like humans, both of them could feel. He then shared a story to us. He said that in the morning, when he went to the flower market, he saw the flower vendor used wires to hold the flowers together. He bought the flower and bring them back for us to use in the class. After he came back, he immediately removed the wires, knowing that the flowers were being restricted by the them. Amazingly, after resting for whole morning, each flower started to show its most beautiful pose freely, just like the birds which were freed from the cages. MOA’s flower arrangement are called ‘Light Wheel Ikebana’, which means ‘the inner interactions between the flower arranger and flowers’. It doesn’t have rigid roles based on one single model. The works are consider accomplished as long as the flower arrangers feel pleased. The practice of flower arrangement is a beautiful experience. The process comforts our soul, and makes our life happier. |

When the time for us to actually practice flower arrangement has come, we were very excited about choosing our many different kinds of flowers. However, Mr. Yoshinobu advised us to choose one or two flowers at a time. Thus, we were puzzled. But later on we realized that even with one or two flowers, it still took us more than half an hour to complete our work. We really enjoyed practicing flower arrangement and we tried our best to make a beautiful work.
