Afterthought- Interview with Mr. Kuo
Even though this interview is only a few hours, since we still need to go back to school, but we still learn a lot about the ups and downs of the certification unit. I always thought that certifying products is an easy job, however, that is not the truth and since MOA also have their regulations, making the process more complicated. MOA’s certification unit acts like a messenger of farmers and Council of Agriculture in Taiwan. Council of Agriculture will give MOA the regulations, and MOA will then go to the farm and inspect. However, there is a lot of unreasonable regulations like the product can’t touch the ground after harvest. Farmers can’t understand regulations like this, but since it Besides of this, Mr. Kuo also told us that people that really loves the land, will not apply for certification. This reminds me of the Ms. Hsieh we met before; her farming method meets the regulation of nature farming but all the regulations of Council of Agriculture. Since her motive of natural farming is not to earn money, she won’t change her farming methods to get the certification.
