MOA’s Origin
ART IS THE THERAPY FOR POST-WAR JAPAN
Following the end of World War II, Japan experienced a gloomy period, facing economic crises and severe damages caused by war. All the problems depressed the Japanese. At this moment, MOA’s founder Mokichi Okada began to think about what is the underlying cause of pain. He wanted to find a resolution, a principle of happiness, to make his people smile again. He later realized that aesthetic lead to happiness since he believed that arts comforts one spiritually. The realization inspired Okada to found MOA to advocate the practice of art in different aspects. He envisioned to create a new civilization that bring happiness to all people, imbuing with truth, virtue and beauty.
