Book Recommendation

At first sight, Professor Li Chien-Lang is kind, learned, and full of enthusiasm as well as stories about architecture. He has a great passion for traditional architecture, reading, and traveling. He always brings cameras and sketchbooks, uses a unique way to record ancient buildings in different places, and publishes more than 100 books. We wanted to make more students know about his dedication to the research on historic sites and promote awareness of heritage preservation. So, after discussion with teachers, we organized a book fair in the elementary school library to introduce the publications of Professor Li, the historic site detective.

Firstly, we collected Professor Li’s publications in recent years and classified them into two periods: 1978-2000, and 2001 till now. We selected classical books from different periods and made three posters to introduce the background of Professor Li and provide the abstracts of books. In this way, students can quickly know the essence of each book. Besides, we exhibit several books, including Illustrations of Ancient Architecture in Taiwan, The Kingdoms of Emperors, The Architectural History of Taiwan, The Ultimate Guide to Historical Sites of Taiwan, Into the Heart of Craftsmanship, The Dwelling Places of All Beings, and The Temples of the Gods to extend knowledge of historic sites.

By arranging the book fair, we drew the attention of students, triggering their interest in reading books by Professor Li; furthermore, enhancing the impression of the historic site detective. In addition, we made presentations to them in a simple way and guided them to know the historic sites and to appreciate the ancient buildings. Through the interaction, we hope to promote awareness of heritage preservation and build up the concept of being environmentally friendly. From the activity of book recommendations, we got a deep sense of accomplishment.
