Food education-Touching and Smelling the Raw Cabbages
Grass Hope Taiwan Foundation believes that food education should be sensory-based. Through touching and smelling the vegetable, children are emotionally bonded to the crops. This will make the children want to eat more vegetables. Therefore, the teachers from Grass Hope Taiwan Foundation always allow Earth's Children to touch the vegetables in the field.
Every vegetables have different textures. According to our observance, the outer leaves of the cabbage was rough. We saved the rougher leaves when we were harvesting the cabbages. They could protect the cabbages from the outside environment. The inner cabbage leaves were very smooth. In addition, the leaves of the cabbage can resist water. The water drops would not stick on the leaves. We loved to play with the small water drops on the cabbage leaves. They moved around on the leaves with a really quick speed. We also smelled our cabbage. Some people beleive cabbage has a very strong ordor. However, this depends on the species. In our opinion, green cabbage didn't have a particular strong smell. It actually smelled quiet nice. Earth's Children had a happy time touching and smelling the raw vegetables in the field.
