On September 12th, Earth’s Children had the first info session. The class was about 2 hours long. Ms. Chen shared with us about her experience in promoting natural farming and food education. We loved her classes. Last year, she taught Earth’s Children how to perform flower arrangement and tea ceremony. This year, she taught us about the concept of natural farming. Ms. Chen really knows a lot!
Ms. Chen was teaching Earth's natural farming.
Although we have been learning about the practice of natural farming for more than one year, we still didn’t not know much. In addition, this year we have 3 new friends joined our team. Together, we wanted to know more about natural farming. This info session was a really joyful experience.
Farming is not easy. Farmers have to bear with the heat and the rain. In addition, they have to prevent insects from biting their crops. Therefore, many farmers use pesticides and fertilizers to increase their harvest. However, pesticides are really toxic. They hurt both the environment and the farmers’ health. Using fertilizers also caused many troubles. First, chemical runoffs cause river pollution. Second, synthetic fertilizers result in soil acidification, which is due to the overabundance of nutrition. |

Ms. Chen told us that farming can also be very eco-friendly. Farmers can choose to practice natural farming. This is also what Grass Hope Taiwan Foundation is promoting. The members have been assisting farmers to change the way they farm. This info session allowed Earth’s to know more about natural farming. At the end of the class, each of us wore the green t-shirt of Grass Hope Taiwan Foundation. We really appreciate Ms. Chen love and passion toward this land. She made our first info session unforgettable.
