Hudi community is surrounded by a great natural environment. Besides beautiful sceneries, the community is also rich in history and culture. On our second visit to Hudi community, Dean Yen toured us around the community. Below are the special spots in the Hudi community that are worthwhile for you to pay a visit.

Hushan Elementary School is famous for its curriculum that incorporates natural education as an important part of its lessons. There are trails and pond in the school for students to embrace nature.

The Hundred Year Old Osmanthus Tree
Osmanthus tree is a common plant in Asia. The fragrance of the Osmanthus flower is loved by many people. However, Osmanthus tree grows in a slow pace. Therefore, Osmanthus Tree is valuable. In addition, Osmanthus plays an important role in Chinese culture. The tree symbolizes love and romance. It represents the wish for the new married to give birth to many children. There is an hundred year old Osmanthus planted in front of the Hsus’ house in the Hudi Community.

The Hundred Year Old Pigsty
Pig was an important domestic livestock back in half of a century ago. Pig was the source for pork, which was the central feature of many Chinese cuisines. The feces of pig was used as fertilizer. The importance of pig’s feces can be seen from the Chinese saying that “don't let one's own fertile water flow into others field”. Feces was considered as a family goodies that should not be shared with others. Besides the Hsus’ house, there is an hundred year old Osmanthus pigsty.
The pigstry is now a popular tourism spot.

Sapindus is known as laundry tree, because it can bears “soapnuts”. The dried shell of Sapindus’ fruit contains saponins which acts like natural detergent. Soapnuts has been serves the function of detergent in Asia for centuries. Back in the old days, people will grow Sapindus tree near to water source. This way they could pick the soapnuts directly when they were doing laundry besides the water. A Sapindus tree was planted nearby one of the water sources in Hudi Community.
